'Roop Lor Pu Tai' is the debut single by the Paradise Bangkok Molam International Band. Born out of the legendary Paradise Bangkok sessions run by DJs Maft Sai and Chris Menist, the band play vintage molam music from the North-East of Thailand, with a 21st century twist.
Featuring Kammao Perdtanon on phin, (Thai lute) Sawai Kaewsombat on khaen, a type of bamboo harmonica, and backed by Piyanart Jotikasthira on bass, Phusana Treeburt on drums and Chris Menist on percussion the band have just completed a successful 2nd tour of Europe, which included a support slot for Damon Albarn in Berlin, as well as gigs in Germany, France, Switzerland, Belgium and the Czech Republic.
'Roop Lor Pu Tai' is a heavy affair, as the phin and khaen improvise over a traditional North Eastern melody, held down by a tough drum and bass, The B side features a masterful dub by Nick Manasseh, that flips the whole tune in another direction. Both tracks bode well for the album that is due to drop in the Autumn.
The single is also the first release on brand new Paradise Bangkok label off-shoot, 'Studio Lam', which focuses on new music coming out of Thailand.
