The second volume of remixes from Urbs´ selftitled album can really be seen as a captivating compilation of timeless HipHop and downtempo songs in its own right.
What can be said about Marc Mac that hasn´t been said before? As part of UK duo 4Hero has he written music history and his Visioneers project has set new standards in organic, instrument based HipHop. His version of "Get Wid It" featuring Tyna from New Zealand has all the attributes one expects from this master musician - a soulful, harmonic masterpiece that wouldn´t be out of place on one of his legendary Visioneers albums.
Peter Kruder has a long history in electronic music and as part of Kruder & Dorfmeister and with his Peace Orchestra has written not only a few pages in music history. His remix of "Happy Days" featuring Bagi and Sarah Ann is one of his (currently) rare excursions to the style that made him famous in first place - a relaxed downtempo tune. This souful song evokes memories of the qualities that endeared his music to millions of people in the 90s.
The third hero of 90s electronica involved in this extraordinary package is Patrick Pulsinger. Together with Sam Irl, his current partner in crime. They show what can happen when a studio wizard with Techno roots and a master musician with HipHop roots come together. Their "Codeine Shake Dub" of "Code Of the Snake" featuring Blabbwona is sort of trippy HipHop-Tech-Dub with loads of bass and as such it´s absolutely unique.
Jstar from London has made a name for himself as creator of countless remixes and edits on his own Jstar label and his specialties are Dub and Reggae remixes of HipHop classics. He´s an absolute master in the field of Digital Dancehall and has transformed the Golden Era sound of "Why We" featuring Kingston, Jamaica´s Ward 21 into something straight out futuristic.
Side B of the EP is opened by Flip, a rap veteran from Linz, who delivers an incredibly dope version of "Holdin´ Back" featuring Wordsworth. With its irresistible Chuck D sample and its funky beat this remix will set every dancefloor from Alaska to Auckland on fire. Check out his critically acclaimed Album Reflections out on New York Raplabel Ill Adrenaline Records.
The package is concluded by Vienna producer Trishes, host of the legendary HipHop show Tribe Vibes on radio FM4 and all-around integrative figure of the Vienna HipHop scene. He uses a cymbal-heavy groove for his underwater funk version of Concussion featuring BluRum13 (of Oneself fame) and creates the perfect backdrop for the insane storytelling.
