Amazing remixes!
"Soy Como Soy" was one of the standout tracks from Gigolo's CD Twelve compilation last year, with Makossa & Megablast representing what DJ Hell calls "the new sound of Austria". Now Hell has invited two influencial DJ/producers to bring M&M's hypnotic workout into new contexts.
DJ Koze, known for his work with Kompakt and more recently his very own label Pampa Records, is perhaps equally famous for his remixes as for his original productions, offering drastic reinterpretions of the source material with unexpected detour. And he's also famous for his sense of humor, which is probably why he named his new version "No Voy a Cambiar", taken from the track's refrain, which means "I'm not going to change". Upon first listen, his remix sounds nearly identical to the original, but extends six minutes into nearly thirteen, subtly tweaking the latin guitar riff and synchopated percussion, and bringing in new elements – like horn arpeggiation and laughing-gas-inspired vocal edits – into the outer limits of auditory hallucination.
On the flip, Cadenza label owner Luciano offers more synthetic sounds in contrast to the acoustic timbres of the original (and Koze's rework). Also doubling the track's length, he makes full use of the aural canvas for a playful, constantly morphing synth melody (inspired by classic Chicago acid house sounds) to underscore the Spanish vocals, which have been mutated into something more alien sounding. Luciano's rework guarantees we will be hearing a fresh take on Makossa & Megablast into the coming months...
